Patient Safety Audioconference Series

AORN is proud to offer this new educational product. The audioconferences offer timely information on topics important to perioperative nurses. Weekday Immersion in Nursing Informatics (WINI) Sept 24-25, 2003 Radisson Hotel Denver Southeast

The WINI program was developed by three informatics nurses and is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The program follows the content outline for the ANCC Nursing Informatics Certification Examination.

Attendees will examine key concepts of nursing informatics. There will be ample opportunity to network with faculty members and peers about nursing informatics issues. Learn about the challenges others face and strategies they use to meet these challenges. Registration is limited to 55 participants.

AORN Multispecialty Conference Sept 25-28, 2003

Denver Marriott City Center Education content for this conference will relate to leadership and management; ambulatory surgery; informatics; nurse educators; clinical nurse specialists; business, industry, and consulting; and rural and small hospitals. On Thursday, Sept 25, in-depth preconference session topics will include finance and bioterrorism or, for those in the specialty of ambulatory surgery, an entire day of critical issues. On Sunday Sept 28, special sessions will be held for educators and nurses working in rural or small hospitals.

Preparing for the CNOR Examination Oct 4-5, 2003 Holiday Inn Oakland Airport, Calif

This program will alleviate the fear of taking the CNOR examination by walking participants through the examination's format and subject areas. The subject areas will be related to clinical situations with which perioperative nurses are familiar. The program also will provide effective test-taking strategies and a framework for participants to develop their own plan for continued examination preparation.

Perioperative Perspective: Creating a Healthy Environment for Our Patients, Ourselves, and Our Profession Oct 11-12, 2003 Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo, Mich

AORN and AORN of Southwest Michigan will host this two-day conference. The conference focuses on patient safety and a healthy work environment for staff members.

Patient Safety-Laser Concepts in Health Care Oct 23, 2003 Opryland Resort and Convention Center, Nashville

In this preconference session for the AORN Clinical Multispecialty Conference, Penny Smalley, RN, will present a special program geared toward protecting staff members and patients from the hazards inherent in the use of medical laser equipment. This all-day interactive session is designed to introduce the fundamental concepts of laser science as applied to the technology and safety required of perioperative professionals working with and responsible for class 3b and class 4 medical lasers.

AORN Clinical Multispecialty Conference Oct 23-25, 2003 Opryland Resort and Convention Center, Nashville

Education content planned for this conference will relate to clinical practice issues. Specialty areas included are advanced technology, cardiothoracics, neurosurgery, orthopedics, pediatrics, and RN first assisting. In-depth preconference education sessions will be offered on Thursday, Oct 23. Several of these offerings are hands-on programs.

Perioperative Nursing: Quest for Knowledge Nov 7-8, 2003 Westin Philadelphia

AORN and AORN of Philadelphia are proud to present this popular two-day conference. The conference offers something for everyone, from motivational sessions to concurrent sessions on clinical, management, and RN first assistant topics. Attendees can mix and match the sessions that work best for them to learn what is hot in perioperative nursing from the profession's leading experts.

Eighth Conference on Infectious Diseases Dec 8-30, 2003 Kimberly-Clark Corporate Facility, Roswell, Ga

This conference brings together a nationally recognized faculty of leading infectious disease professionals. Attendees will obtain the latest information about emerging infectious disease threats and learn strategies to protect patients and staff members and decrease morbidity and mortality related to nosocomial infections, including surgical site infections. Attendance is limited to 84 participants.

Clinical Educator Certificate Program. This program is a convenient, comprehensive, distance-learning program that provides nurse educators with the information to develop successful education programs for nurses in their facilities. The program is offered by AORN in collaboration with the University of Colorado School of Nursing, Denver. The three courses, which provide a total of six academic credits, are credentialed at the graduate level but also are applicable to most undergraduate programs. The next three-session offering is

* Jan 26, to May 21, 2004--Business Issues in Clinical Education;

* June 7, to Aug 13, 2004--Program Development and Evaluation; and

* Aug 30, to Dec 17, 2004--Principles of Clinical
